Canna lilies

Heĺlo , all the experts say to wait till the first frost  before lifting canna's , but this didn't happen till after Christmas last year , so should I wait or lift them now , thanks .

    Depends on where you are.  We are in London, and last year I left them in the ground.  I covered them in some bark chipping and put an upside down terracotta plant saucer over the top (to keep the worse of the rain out).  They survived unscathed.

    I moved ours into pots this year, so I will be putting them into our unheated greenhouse before any frosts hit.  
  • I find that Cannas are more tender than most and have never managed to keep them outside over winter here in the East Midlands.  I leave Dahlias in the ground with a mulch but always lift the Cannas and pot them up, keeping in the greenhouse until the Spring. I dig them up around now, before the first frost.
  • I live in Cheshire , so I think I will lift mine and store iin pots in garage .

    Dahlias are hardier than cannas.
    As @KeenOnGreen says - it all comes down to conditions. Even in really good ground, they need protection in most parts of the UK.
    They'd already be under cover here - from about a month ago.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
