I grew White Emergo and Firestorm this year. Both quite prolific and tasty too. The flowers on Firestorm are very conspicous and nice.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

  • I'm quite excited to try something suggested by a friend of mine, which is to overwinter runner bean plants in pots - he's had success with the same plants growing over 5 years (so far). Has anyone else tried this?

I also grow Firestorm, mainly because they’re self pollinating.  Just in case there aren’t any bees around that early.
I couldn’t be bothered overwintering,  it’s no trouble to start again in May with fresh seed.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Runner beans are known as seven year beans in the US, presumably they are only perennial in frost free states.

I have had random plants survive in a mild winter. They end up wrapping round something else if I have not dug well enough before planting.

Has anyone tried this variety? It says 'climbing bean' and not 'runner bean', though. Wilk0 are selling these for 50p. So I bought them for next year.
