Convolvulus pruning

Hi all! Just a quick question, is it too late to prune convolvulus? I’m down south so is quite mild still.

Many thanks

    What kind is it?
They don't really get pruned, you would just lightly trim back after flowering if it's a perennial one.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hi Fairygirl, ah yes sorry I should have mentioned haha. It’s Convolvulus Cnearm not sure if that’s spelt right! I cut it back quite hard last year in spring and came back with a vengeance. It was more to tidy it up a little bit as as much as I like it it’s absolutely huge!

I wondered if it was that one - cneorum  ;)
They usually just get dead headed - a light trim if needed, but that's about it ,especially at this time of year. If it was successful hacking it back in spring, that might be the way to go anyway  :)

They didn't survive our winters here, so I gave up on them a long time ago.

  • Aha that’s how it’s spelt, was just testing you 😉 well I was wondering if I could just give it a light haircut now and then give it a harder prune in spring. Worst case I just replace it?

I don’t like getting things wrong though which is why I ask an insane amount of questions 😂

I would be careful with it just now, and not take much off rather than dead flowers,  and if it works cutting back, next year do that.
I would have thought cutting it back in spring would stop it flowering though. They flower in summer  - or have I got that wrong?

  • I was only going to give it a light trim
anyway. Well according to the RHS pruning book they’re cut back in spring before flowering, but yes I agree with what you’re saying and would have thought the same. I guess just trial and error? Haha I worry too much sorry!
