Tree seedlings--any advice?

I have the smallest garden in my city, but I have recently bought another house with a big garden and I thought it would be fun to try growing some ornamental trees and shrubs from seed. I started this summer and in a sense I have been a victim of my own success--I've got two tiny Cercis siliquastrum, an Erythrina crista-galli and a minute Cedar of Lebanon on the go.

I'm a bit worried about them overwinter though. All the advice only discusses how to germinate them--now I have, I don't want to kill them  I have no room for a greenhouse, though I do have some sheltered spaces on my deck.

Has anyone tried doing this? How much protection did you need to give the very newly germinated plants? I was expecting them to germinate next spring and to have a whole growing season to establish a bit... Would fleece be advisable?
