Potatoes in container didn’t grow flowers

They also didn’t really die off before I got annoyed as they were quite floppy so I cut some off. They were grown from scraps with eyes. I’m not expecting much as they didn’t flower. Should I just empty out the tub and see what’s in there?

  • Were these maincrop potatoes, and how long have they been growing? What do you mean by "cut some off" - you cut the foliage back to the ground?

Not producing flowers isn't an issue and won't affect the crop (assuming the overall growth is healthy and there are no other issues). With main crop, you should cut the flowers and fruit off if it forms anyway.

Main crop potatoes need about 20 weeks of growing. Normally you wait for the foliage to yellow and start to die back on its own, at which point you cut the foliage to the ground. You then leave the tubers in the ground for a week or 2 to swell up before you harvest them. And you should be harvesting your last main crop around now, before the frosts start.

  • Thanks @strelitzia32, I don’t know what kind of potatoes these are. They were kitchen scraps so just an experiment in an old large tub. I think they were planted out in May. I cut half the foliage off. They didn’t look yellow but were untidy. I guess I can try to treat them as main crop and cut to the ground and leave for 2 weeks then. Thanks.
