Overwintering cucamelon tubers

Has anyone here tried overwintering cucamelon tubers?

I have read that you treat them the same as dahlias. I didn't realise that they made tubers until I dug them up last year, and I tried to overwinter them but failed miserably - I may have damaged them as I didn't realise they were there, also they dried out. The way I do my dahlias (in pots) is to just remove most of the stems and then put the pots in a cold lean-to greenhouse - I don't dig them up. I think I'll probably try doing the same with the cucamelons this year, but I wondered if anyone who had done it might have any tips?

  • I’m afraid I can’t help you but I was thinking of growing them. Would you recommend?

Hello, well I like growing them because they're easy and my kids love them. They will happily munch through a little bowl.of them as a snack. I don't like them, but I don't like cucumbers etc either. I usually just have a big pot with a teepee of canes for them to grow up. This year I had four plants to start with but the squirrels kept digging them up - there's only so many times a plant will tolerate being replanted so I ended up with just one plant, but it filled the teepee with growth.
