I thought they were garden spiders with the cross on the back. I like pumpkin spider better though.

Araneus marmoreus is as close
as I can get.
Pic here.
It's also called the 'Pumpkin spider'.
Also Araneus diadematus.
So it seems to be some kind of orb weaver, but not sure which.
