Dicentra formosa "Bacchanal"

Three dicentra formosa Bacchanal plants from Sarah Raven were delivered today and they are alive but smaller than I'd expected.  The middle one has only a couple of very small leaves.

I had expected to put them out in the garden in a shady area by a Western-facing house wall, as they were marketed as "for autumn planting"- but they seem on the small side? Or am I being too mother hen? What would you do with them?

I would keep them in their pots until spring, somewhere sheltered outside, just check the roots aren't filling the pot.

Thank you @k67, that's where my thoughts were tending.
  • New plants look just fine.
Rather amazed to see flowers on them in October...pics below were taken in April.

I would plant them out now while the soil is still warm.
Give them plenty of space...one small plant will soon form a huge patch.

    Perthshire. SCOTLAND .

    What lovely plants you have!

I was also surprised it was in bloom...
