Coronilla Glauca Citrina, Acacia Baileyana and two out of three of my coprosma shrubs gave up early in the year and a bit later I lost an evergreen oak tree that had been planted four or five years back and most recently a star jasmine decided it had been planted in the wrong spot. I think the coronilla was out competed for water by some ground elder during a dry spell in spring. The Acacia just decided the garden was too cold for it and the coprosma were probably the same. The garden is on the north side of a hill so must try to remember to only get plants that are completely frost hardy. Not sure what killed the evergreen oak or the star jasmine but they had not grown much since being planted and maybe it was also something to do with cold damp soil not suiting them. Already having other plants fill the space left by the failures so just lessons in what works and doesn't work in the garden here anyway.
Cherry tomatoes, a waste of time (I've binned the little green marbles now, and being newish to gardening I am kicking myself as I bought the plant so didn't even have the satisfaction of trying to grow from seed.
Sweet Peas! Not a single flower...how embarrassing!
I have just potted some seeds of these for the first time, any idea what went wrong?
@Grassly. Not sure where in Bucks you live. But if you are anywhere near Aylesbury i will give you some tomato plants next year. We always have too many!

Most of my lock down experiments were disappointing. I had tons of French bean plants but after I planted them out they just sat there and didn't grow. I got about ten mangetout and a couple of runner beans. Only one cabbage got big enough to eat, and my visions of canning my own dill pickles were dashed as only two cucumbers formed out of the masses of flowers. None of the summer flower seeds I planted got much beyond seedlings and are still sitting there looking tiny, except the marigolds. I planted a ton of different bulbs in March but only saw a few leaves and the tiniest allium flower ever. The beets never formed properly and only two or three radishes grew. I have several very green tomatoes.
On the plus side I got a number of edible courgettes and two dinners' worth of bonus potatoes out of the plastic dalek.
The fox left a lovely poo on top of one of my dwarf French beans - i only had 3 plants. The cucamelon had hardly any fruit. The early cobs of corn were delicious but then aphids struck and I had to write off the rest of them.
The cherry tomato seeds failed, the marketmore cucumbers were tough and not to my liking, the cherry had lots of fruit but everyone shrivelled and fell off before ripening, the bought courgettes got powdery mildew and were binned, and the aubergine never had a fruit. Other than that its been the best harvest this year for all the rest.
My courgette plant was a failure this year. Started well but as the weather kept changing, it started to struggle and produce less flowers. By mid Aug, it looked so unhealthy, I cut it down and got rid. This is the first year that I’ve struggled with courgette.
Pak choi, again brilliant at beginning of the year. By July, I’d given up on trying to grow any more as the flea beetle just decimated them. Another veg that I usually have no problems with.

Had to dig /discard both.

RIP young mock orange and daphne shrubs, salvia purpurea and small iris.
Snails and slugs feasted on lupin and angelica gigas.
First year of gardening properly, I’m learning (clearly not quick enough for cuttings though 😂)
