Produce update

So, first time veg grower (and new to gardening in general), and today I harvested 2 containers of carrots (one where the seedlings were thinned and one where they weren't), and had a look over my cauliflowers.
All in all I am quite pleased. The cauliflowers are coming on a treat and my carrot growing life is complete as I got a nuddy man my first time out 🤣🤣
I do hope the cauliflowers get a bit bigger though!

Well done! Impressive carrots!!! It's such an addictive thing,  growing stuff! Wait until you have windowsills full of seed trays! I've just been drinking my coffee looking at little shoots peeping through the soil!
Bet the carrots will taste amazing!
  • I took the netting of my brassica bed on Sunday as all cabbage white butterflies seem to have disappeared now (finally!) and noticed this morning they all seem to have had a good stretch as they are now all stood to attention 😃. Has made it easier to see a few more cauliflowers (also Diddy but I live in hope they will get bigger) and some small calabrese (which haven't been as quick growing as I expected but I guess they will be ready when they are ready!) which I also hope will get bigger. My cabbages are confusing though. They are supposed to be round white cabbage but look more pointed? Oh well, I'm sure they will still taste nice and cabbage-y 😋

Thats lovely to hear @spookess that your hard work is being fruitful. 😁 For a newbie you are doing well ( I wish I could grow brassica but we don't seem to get along😒) and eating things grown yourself is very rewarding. Keep it up.😁

When it comes to brassica I always grow a couple of plants too many and these I call sacrifices.  They are for the butterflies,  I have the others..... it actually works!!! Can't stand killing stuff.

Don't mind the odd sacrifices @WonkyWomble its the massacres that I object to.😆
BTW @spookess watch out, I had cabbage white caterpillars on my purple broccoli in January!

Don't be telling me that! 😱 Should at least be more manageable checking wise though. We've had tons of the butterflies this year. I lost a container of 3 cabbages to caterpillars (before I put the ones in under netting in the veg bed). There were just stalks left. I got my revenge though and picked them all off (about 40) and put them in the bird seed tray 🤣 🐦

The caterpillars have ravaged my broccoli  :o Although there are a couple of small heads that have survived so far.

Other than the peas, the only other veg still batting is the cabbage.
