Hi
I'd like some advice please
My garden privets have changed  in appearance and I don't know if it's just autumn seasonal or something that needs addressing.
The leaves have gone dry and look grey speckled in colour
Is all ok with my Privets?
Thanks in advance for any info
Jackie

    Hi Jackie. Welcome.
Can you post a photo of your privet to help people assess what is wrong? All evergreens drop leaves on a regular basis but as you say the appearance has changed, that does suggest something else is going on.

Grey suggests mildew, but photos are needed @j.birch2.

Privet isn't evergreen anyway, so loss of foliage isn't unusual.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks for replies

Privet can be susceptible to Honey Fungus, but it's something I have no experience of, and the photos aren't showing clearly enough if that's the case.
I think @BobTheGardener had this with his hedge, so if he sees my tag, he might be able to confirm if it is or not.

If they've been stressed with lack of water, that won't have helped. Privet likes lots of it.

Is it definitely Privet?  It looks more like Box, or something else, to me.

I actually wondered that too @KeenOnGreen. Some of the foliage didn't look right for privet.

  • The third photo is taken of privet close to ground so shows ground foliage in soil so may be misleading @keenongreen and @Fairygirl
Thank you for your thoughts so far

It looks like Thrips damage to me. If the leaves feel dry and rough.

May cause early leaf drop but generally will do best if you prune out the worst affected leaves. Keep shrub well watered to keep it growing strong.
