Daisies in parks

JamieBJamieB Posts: 26
Hi all, this is probably a very daft question but what is the Latin name for the low growing daisies you see in lawns and parks. I thought it was Bellis perennis but having sown seeds into my lawn their stems are much longer than the daisies I wanted. I've been scratching my head but I'd much prefer the smaller daisies with the low rosettes and flower heads so I can mow over them. All thoughts most welcome. Cheers james

Have you mowed the ones you have? Maybe mowing makes them grow lower

    In London. Keen but lazy.

Hi, yeah they just grow back. Really irritating as I've accidentally ruined my lawn. But I'd like incorporate daisies for pollinators. Can you nurture them to grow lower by mowing them? James

The bog standard daisy is generally lower growing, but they can be three or four inches high, so it might just be your general conditions. I'd have thought if you mow regularly, they'll stay shorter  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

You are correct...the common weedy daisy in UK lawns are Bellis perennis.
However in garden centres they do sell a much larger daisy also called Bellis perennis.... a cultivar.
It is far larger and has double flowers.
Maybe you used this to seed your lawn. Ooops!
