Getting rid of "lonicera-periclymenum-serotina"

WE planted one of these in June and it's already getting out of control - as quickly as we cut it it grows - I know learn that it could grow up to 8 m high - it's against a 2m fence panel!

Apart from the fact is was missold - I want to get rid of it.

What's the best way - to kill it with weedkiller and the dig it out - or just go for chop an ddigging up

How far will the roots have gone since June?

Cut back and dig out. It won't be that difficult if it's only been there a few months.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Can you show us in picture form what out of control looks like? It's a honeysuckle how bad can it really be?

Serotina is a gorgeous honeysuckle ... out of control in a few months?  I don’t understand it 🤷‍♀️
We have one against the usual 6’ fence ... perfectly controllable, covered with flowers every year, home to a Robin family and a wren.

We need a photo so we can see what’s gone wrong ...

That is perfect ... the growth it put on this year will be covered with wonderfully perfumed flowers next May/June ... after that you can take the shears to it if you wish to clip it back a bit ... then it’ll make new growth that will bear the flowers the following year.

I know it has grown a bit since you planted it, but it only puts on new growth in the couple of months after flowering so it’s easily controlled.

    Panic not and enjoy 🐝
