Hi, does anyone have any idea what this is? It's grown huge, but no sign of any flower all summer

  My vote goes to evening primrose too. Don’t like it myself, a gangly thing with unattractive yellow flowers that splutter and die.

  As mentioned on 21st Sept...The leaves of Oenothera biennis.....  common evening primrose have a prominent white mid- vein.

  It's a puzzle.  My evening primrose are much smaller and don't have pointy bits on the foliage but then they're a perennial form - according to the label.

  Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  I'd go with teasel. Our neighbour planted/sowed seeds to feed the birds/bees in some waste ground behind us and now they are coming up in my garden.

  Thanks very much for all the replies. I had a look this morning to see if they have prickly bits, but they don't seem to and the leaf seems almost white underneath. Would this lean more towards the Evening Primrose?

  Hi, this is the plant now and I still have no idea what it is, but it has spread a lot. Does anyone have any ideas please?

  The leaves don't look wide enough for teasel ...certainly not like the teasel in my garden. My teasel leaves are rather more rounded, than pointed ... I think. 😊
