Griselinia Hedge Unhappy

This hedge is 2 years old.  Recently some of the leaves have acquired black spots and others have turned white.  Some of the stems have lost their leaves and the stems have turned brown and woody.

I can't see much wrong with that. All evergreens lose foliage now and again. It looks like it's establishing well. It can take several years for shrubs, whether stand alone or in a hedge, to get a decent root system and start growing away.
If it was dying completely, or losing all the foliage, it might be different  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Also, as it is the variegated variety, the white leaves are just the natural variation in the variegation! I get black bits on the leaves of mine when there has been a cold snap - so it's just the season.
  • Thanks for your comments, but I am not fully reassured!  Some of the plants look seriously unwell.  Could it be root rot?

Be reassured mine have had occasional black leaves but still here, and growing well, years later.

What makes you think they're rotted?
Did you think they'd be much bigger by now? It takes a long time for plants to establish. It's also perfectly normal for some specimens to do better than others in a hedge :)
