Tomato Maskotka

Hi all. I’ve grown the Maskotka tomatoes from seed which came free with Gardeners’ World magazine. They were a huge success especially as I’ve never grown tomatoes in my life!!!  One of the successes of lockdown. They were grown in 24.5 cm plastic pots and have now finished bearing fruit so I’ve emptied them out of their pots. 
My questions are - can I re use the compost to put on the borders?
Can I compost the plants in my compost bin?
I have some allium nigrum bulbs which I don’t want to put in the borders at the moment.  Could I use the pots?
Thank you for all your help and hopefully I’ll receive another packet next year with my magazine!!

    Yes, 'spent' compost like this is great for borders and you can compost the tomato plants on your heap.  If you want to re-use the compost for the alliums, that would be fine temporarily even though there'll be no nutrition left in it, as long as you plant them out next spring.  It might be worth mixing some fish, blood and bone fertilizer into the compost if the bulbs will be in the pots any longer than that.

    I also grew Maskotka and they've been great.
    The answer to your 3 questions is yes, but you might find there is little useful compost left in the pots and mostly a lot of matted root.

    If you still have any of the tomatoes left you could try saving seed from them for next year.
