New Grass Help

Hi Everyone, 

Would anyone be able to give some advice on my grass. I have used the grass peoples grass seed with some top soil on my lawn. 

when its long it looks really good (see picture 1), however when I cut the grass it looks very patchy (picture 2 & 3), is there anything people would suggest? 

I followed the instructions of laying down 35 grams per m2 as I was laying over bits of existing lawn.

Do I just need to overseed again to fill out the gaps, or is the grass slowly dying...

    Don't cut so much off when you cut. The rate of growth will slow anyway over winter, but if you cut too short when it's only just establishing, you make it harder for it to get a good root system.
    Little and often, until it's not needing done at all, then do the same in spring to encourage tillering - which is sideways growth.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
