Do orchids really need clear pots?

There's plenty of green fuzzy roots on the surface but the clear pot is - unattractive😐
I think it's a phalaenopsis

Mine is in a clear pot inside a pottery pot. It's about 4 years old and flowers 2 or 3 times a year on 2 or 3 stems. I don't know how it has such huge beautiful flowers, I forget to water it and have only fed it about twice. The flowers last for ages.

they photosynthesise via their roots as well as their leaves, but " in the wild " they're under tree canopies so don't get a lot of light . In normal doestic settings I'd say they don't need that extra help via the roots.

It refuses to grow anywhere but on a windowsill in the hall with minimal diffused light or on top of a wardrobe where I once put it out of the way and forgot about it.
It tries to die if I put it anywhere else.
It definitely gives fair warning if it's unhappy @philippasmith2
They are definitely the curmudgeon of the plant world!

some of mine are too Top Heavy to stand alone, and they're in ceramic pot covers. None the worse for it

I have one which I transferred to a taller glass vase after it outgrew it's nasty cheap plastic pot.  It's in the shower room with plenty of light but no direct sun and looks healthy but refuses to flower again.

It's on a warning.  Flowers by Xmas or compost heap.

I think 'plenty of light' might be the issue, going by mine. Try it in a darker corner before you compost it. Mine sulked on a bright North facing windowsill

Mine are between flowers at the moment, but they are on a due east facing windowsill in ceramic orchid pots.

Not too bothered.  Don't like them.  Only ever receive them as gifts from people who don't know me well.  The last 3 did fine in similar light conditions in Belgium but 'appen north facing is less bright there in winter.

I know what you mean @Obelixx. Mine was a present too. That's why it ended up in an out of sight place but it seems to know when I'm getting fed up with it and produces a flower bud so I leave it be for another while.
