Why is my apple tree shedding it's bark? (pics).

It is only a young tree/sapling. The bark has split almost the   length  of the trunk. It is very clearly  peeling off. Not quite the full circumference yet.

There is some young healthy growth at the top.

The tree is about 2ft tall from the top of the pot.

I have no idea whether the bark of apple trees grows back. I understand the importance of bark  though.

The cutting was only taken in early 2019, and potted up around December of the same year. Other than the bark issue, it is doing ok.

    It's ok.

I have just been reading a bit about the issue. It does say that the affected 'branch' usually dies off. In my case it is the main stem, so more critical I guess. We shall see what happens.

It is never good to lose stuff that you have put effort in to, but it happens just like farmers losing spring lambs.

I've lost a few plum saplings this year grown from stones, not cuttings. I grow quite a few so I guess it is inevitable.

I have got a few really nice healthy specimens now, so I feel it is worth the effort.
