Strange Giant Mushrooms

I have discovered a new mushroom in my garden which is probabily about 8inches round and about 6 inches tall. Just wondering if anyone knew what it is?

    What's underneath?  Looks like a cep!!!  
    A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    It's a boletus of one sort or another yes, it could well be a rather old cep, a picture of the stem and pores would help identify it

    could it be a bolete?

    Do you have birch trees nearby? Could be one of the birch boletus (leccinum family).

    yes I do have a birh tree next to it about 5 foot away

    @hsdeo1   Olive oil - fry garlic then the cut up fungus - sprinkle with lots of parsley.  S & P !!!  Personally, I don't eat the spongy underside.  The chemist should be able to verify for you
