Overgrown variegated myrtle

I need to prune the myrtle as it has outgrown its space, but I want to use the prunings as cuttings. Is this the right time to do this or do I have to wait till spring?

I have a greenhouse with a hot cable on sand in a perspex diy 6ft box. I could take cuttings and put them in there over winter or would hardwood cuttings in the open be more successful?
