olive tree top lost in tree cutting

Hi all so I, ve been having some trees tops cut down in the my garden  unfortunately one of the branches fell on to my olive tree and has sliced the top off 😔 the gentlemen doing the tree cut were mortified to  be fair they cut of the jagged trunk what i want to know is will it grow back? is there anything i can do to help it? the large side shoot from the main plant is still there  can i do anything with the lost top ie plant cuttings to perhaps grow another tree.? Absolutely gutted 😒

  • I agree, it will grow out if this accidental haircut and it's a positive to have some growth left on both stems.

    It looks like you can propagate them from mature wood cuttings like these but they need bottom heat. No harm in popping a couple of pieces in pots and see what happens.

    Sometimes, here (South of France) the olive trees get cut right back to nothing, and they come away again - in time.  They are not a fast growing tree.  

    As for cuttings - why not try and strike a few - the dormant season is nigh (olives here are harvested in September) - I prune mine in January but I see that some people are having theirs pruned now.
    A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • Thanks peoples  for your advice... this just happened to my tree this morning  so i, ll keep watching  with fingers crossed. i, ll try to propagate   the broken off sections too
