Plant labels

Although I use a machine for printing my permanent labels I hand write those for seedlings and cuttings until they are viable plants. Does anyone know what Monty uses to write on his labels?  It looks like a pencil on the TV but mine always washes away as does felt tipped pen.  Any suggestions gratefully received.
