Propagator

Hi , I’ve recently purchased a propagator to take cuttings from plants. But I’m unsure on what plants to take cuttings from now , in October.

What plants do you have in your garden? And what do you want to propagate?

Red robins, camellias, bamboo , all sorts really. I was just wondering if certain plants would be best to propagate in October or what typical plants people choose to propagate in October really

A month earlier than October but, you could apply it to October from what I've seen is this page on Gardeners World

I can only suggest what I take.

Camellia - If your a novice I probably wouldn't bother with these.
Photinia - semi hardwood in summer, ideally.
Bamboo - split the roots on the case of clump forming or runners. Be careful letting running Bamboo go where it wants.. can be (and is) invasive.
    Rose - hardwood
    Cornus - hardwood
    Sambucus - hardwood
Pelargoniums - dip the cutting in water or in cutting medium. Easy.
Brugmansia - Semi hardwood. May take in water?
Hardy Annuals - Nigella, Sweet Pea - seeds.
Phlox - root cuttings. (Take well in a propagator)
    Hosta - split
    Canna - split
    Heleniums  - split
Hydrangea - semi hardwood or tip/softwood cuttings (Take well in a propagator)
Penstemon - tip/softwood (Take well in a propagator)

I'm sure others will chip in. Hope that's enough to get you going?

Great thank you! Much appreciated. I think I’ll have a go at propagating some hydrangeas
