Mimosa / Acacia?

I have had this tree for about 3 years and this year small round black pods with some white in them have appaired

has any one any idea what this is and what can I do ?

I'm guessing they're some kind of scale insect and the white part is the egg mass. You can scrape them off, or dab (using cottonwool) or paint them with methylated spirit which kills them. Keep a look out for any that may have escaped the treatment.
