Absolutely positive now it is NOT Giant hogweed.
Last week in Perth, Scotland on the banks of the river Tay I found some Giant hogweed. So today popped back to take a few pics. There were many flowering stems from 2020 summer. (Much lay  dead on the ground having been sprayed in 2019.)

The giant stems were easily 7/8 cm across near the bottom.
    Stems very ridged and hollow.
The giant dead flower heads were easily  60/70 cm across.
    Seeds were actually rather pretty.
    Attached are a few pics.

There's a huge stand of it in Paisley @Silver surfer. It stand out a mile when you go past on the nearby road, even though it's quite a  distance away.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I was amazed when we moved up to Scotland from Wales, how much of it there is up here.
Seen big patches near rivers in several places.
Even from a distance it is unmistakable.
    Dreadful stuff.
On par with Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam.

When I was out walking last week, I did a route I haven't done for a wee while, and it takes me over the River Cart .  There's a tiny burn which feeds into it, just beside the local mill, and it was choked with Himalayan Balsam. I haven't seen it there before, and I've walked that route loads of times, and at different times of year. . Depressing :/

  • Within a few years it will have spread right along all the tiny streams, watercourses, rivers, invading rich fertile farm land on its way.Eliminating any native plants completely.

So sad as the flowers are so beautiful.
    Agree very depressing.

I can only hope it doesn't get right into the river there. I'm not sure how easy it would be because of the mill and the house there, but of course - the seed goes for miles, so who knows.  :/
It's  a lovely little spot with a pretty stone bridge over the river.
