How to make hydrangea strong

My sister had a row of white flowering hydrangeas planted last year, they were already all in bloom. She looked after them well, but the stems are very thin and cannot hold the blossoms.
How can she make the stems stronger for the next year?
Any recommendations will be welcome.

Pruning correctly certainly helps but the panticular variety does tend to droop more than others.
    This may help

  • thank you K67.
    very useful link.

and the acidic soil required even for the white colour? wow, i thought it only played the role if you want to change the colour of the blooms.

Acidic soil is needed to keep blue mopheads from turning reddish, but you’re correct. The white flowered types will be happy with either.

As the plants mature they will produce sturdier flower stems.

the plants have only been in foe a couple of years, and werent pruned last spring
i should emphasize the importance of the feeding and the pruning.
