Pruning a summer flowering white Jasmine

We have a white summer flowering Jasmine and would like advice on how to prune it. Should be grateful if anyone can help.
Thanks, Trevor

Do you know if it is Jasminum Offiinale or perhaps something like Trachelospermum Jasminoides. Both plants will climb or scramble if unsupported. May need to see a photograph to advise. Ideal time to tidy up or limit growth tends to be after they have flowered.
  • Hi Borderline, it is a Trachelospermum Jasminoides. It flowered in the early summer. So if we understand your advice we should trim it now. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts . Best regards, Trevor

Thanks for getting back. It all depends on how old it is. If you have had it for many years, and it has formed a mass of foliage, you can just prune any wayward stems that stick out or are growing outside of the space you want it to grow in. They respond well to this type of pruning. The idea is to keep the mass of foliage under control, and stop it growing so thick.

If you have a young plant and still training it over something, you will need to guide them a bit, then tie in stems that will hopefully mature over the year. Then snip any small wayward stems that may protrude too much. These plants don't normally need regimented pruning. More a light tidy-up to make the overall plant look a bit more neat.
