Plant identification - philodendron or peperomia or...?

Total novice here! We have a house plant that was gifted to my partner years ago. Here's what we know:
- It's obviously quite hardy, as it's still alive despite patchy care!
- It has light, bright green heart shaped leaves, with visible veins of the same colour radiating out from the bottom of the leaf.
- The leaves are firm and ever so slightly fleshy - although I wouldn't call them succulent leaves by any stretch.
- The underside of the leaves are a slightly paler green.
- The stems are a reddish colour.
- It doesn't seem to be a trailer or a climber - although that could just be because it's a bit stunted.
- It doesn't seem to like over-watering.

From research online, I think I have narrowed it down to either a small heartleaf philodendron, or a peperomia serpens... although I could be entirely wrong, of course! Can anyone help? I'd love to be able to help this little friend thrive!

  • My guess would be peperomia ... I have a few different sorts. Philodendrons tend to be tendril hanging plants? If you've had it for years ... are you cutting it back?

Ah that helps, thank you! No, we've not cut it back... but it's definitely not thriving at the moment as we've had no idea how to properly care for it.
  • Could this be it?   Peperomia pixie lime ... if not very similar. Your plants leaves seem quite light ... could you be over watering? Have a look at this link as it tells you everything you need to know about peperomia. Good luck ... start collecting!!!

  • That could well be it - that picture is clearer than any I found, thank you so much!

Yes, I think we have been over-watering. I also think it's been getting too much direct sunlight, so I've moved it and repotted, and cut down on watering. Fingers crossed!
