Overwintering ornamental grasses in pots- potential problem..

Hi everyone, hoping you might be able to help..

I grew LOADS of grasses (Stipa Tenuissima, Deschampsia Cesp. and Briza Media) from seed this year, in two sowings- March and July.

The July sowing seem fine in their 1l pots. Their roots are developing away nicely in their 1l pots. The leaves are green and they seem fine. I'm ASSUMING I'll be fine to leave them in a sheltered spot over winter (?).

The March sown grasses, on the other hand, aren't looking too happy. The leaves have started to die back, and, although they're now in 2l pots, they're mostly quite rootbound.

The problem is this: my awesome grassy border won't be ready to plant up until perhaps late October/November. I'd actually rather just plant them out in spring to give me time to plan appropriately.

Am I risking it by attempting to overwinter in these pots? Do the older grasses need to be potted up before the winter frosts hit?

Help!

Some grasses will be starting to die back now anyway, so probably not due to being root bound.
I would leave them in their pots, keep sheltered and plant out in Spring.
