planting flamingo willows

can I put flaming willow bushes in pots and what size to you suggest? I have 3 on order and want to get the correct idea for planting them  in my garden. I can plant them in ground or pots  have enough land to do either. I look forward to any suggestions.

They really aren't good as pot specimens. It's very difficult to keep them hydrated enough to support any top growth, especially in hot, dry weather.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I totally agree with @Fairygirl ... if you think of where willows grow naturally ... on riverbanks, around ponds and lakes and watermeadows  where they're actually dipping their toes into the water ... they are incredibly thirsty plants ... so prepare a planting site by digging in lots of moisture retentive organic matter before planting ... and water water water, two full buckets per tree, every other day from early March to late September every year, and you'll have lovely moptops the envy of everyone else who has poorly looking Flamingos struggling to survive in parched pots and dry plots.   :D

  • So many nicer plants out there...and much easier to look after.

But she has three on order ... and if they're looked after so they look the best they possibly can, they'll be just what she wanted ... after all she saw them in a catalogue and liked them.  That's fine ... it's her garden  :) 👍

  • At least they're easy to kill @Dovefromabove but true...missed the bit about being on order...then only way is to take them on and hope for the wild variegation to show itself.
