Raised beds

  • I have had a couple of raised beds/ planters built and now would value advice on what to fill them with in terms of soil, compost whatever. Thanks in advance!

    John innes 3, multi purpose compost, topsoil or enriched top soil, composted bark, garden soil, home made compost.
    Any combination of above really depends what you can get hold off and what you intend to plant. 
    Shrubs will need more John Innes whereas if you are doing annuals you could fill with garden soil and use mpc in the top foot mixed in.
    You can find calculators that will work out how many litres of soil you will need to fill them. It's not going to be cheap!

    As @K67 describes, as that will give you a good base to grow most things, but I'd have lined them with plastic to help retain moisture, and to help prevent rotting.  :)
    The contents will also settle over time, so you'll need to top up on regular basis. What you do that with will depend on what you're growing in them. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
