what is eating my plant?

Something has been eating the bottom leaves on my pepper plant, and I haven't been able to figure out what it is. However, today I saw that it moved on to my squash! it ate part of the stem holding a flower, and just left the flower. In all my research, I haven't found a bug that would do this. It is almost as if the stem was snipped off. Also, the peppers are on the opposite side of the squash with tomatoes in between, with no damage whatsoever on the tomatoes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm not surprised that your secret muncher bypassed the tomatoes.  Many pests are quite discriminating in their tastes, and tomato leaves and stems are very hairy and strong-smelling...  you could try going out at night with a torch, because slugs or snails would be my first guess.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

My guess would be slugs/snails too. They'll take what's easiest first  :)
