Cordylines going brown

My mum has eight cordylines growing in place of one original which turned to much through the winter a few years ago. So from the site of one going she has these 8 from the one stump.they are all about 7ft tall .three have   flowered but now on each one all have leaves going brown .these were taken off (pulled off).this left all green leaves.but now it's mostly green leaves have gone brown.I suggested of cutting each one down a foot to see what happens.

Has this happened to  storylines of anyone else ?

    Just to add the seven which I had through the same winter which came from one original continue to lose leaves but on the whole doing ok..but my mum's are a bit worse for wear .....have thought they could be too close together😕
