Privet disease

I have a well-established privet hedge in my front garden. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that a lot of the leaves had gone greeny-grey with spots (pics attached). Some have now started dropping off. I have looked at typical privet diseases online and I don't recognise my hedge. I would be grateful for any diagnosis or advice.

I think your privet may have suffered from the dry weather and this year has been pretty warm throughout. Consider watering generously around the base in the evenings to help it along. Keep doing this until late autumn.

I think it might be Thrips that has caused the leaves to turn pale and mottled. Prune out the damaged sections, those areas may rejuvenate before winter sets in.
  • Thank you for that. It's drizzling at the moment but I will get the bucket out. And perhaps a pesticide for the thrips.

Privet really thrives best in plenty of wet, so don't be afraid to really soak it  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
