What plant to have for a porch

Liza6Liza6 Posts: 65
Hi - please can anyone offer advice or suggestions on which would be the best type of  potted plant to have in our north facing porch? Open area, but is fairly light, though obviously no sun, I want it to grow to, or be at least 3 ft tall or more?
If anyone has any suggestions most grateful......

Too cold for ficus as it's an open porch (ie not glassed in). I'm trying to think of something that would work in a container in pretty much full shade below the wall. Maybe some kind of potted standard tree so the head is in the slightly lighter zone above the wall (not bay, that wants some sun, but that sort of thing).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

A Pittosporum perhaps? Some have a more upright growth habit and it could be pruned to shape if necessary.
You could maybe raise the pot at first, then lower it as it grows taller.
