Agave montana in bloom

Hi Everyone,
Our sunny fronted garden in Eastbourne has hosted a large agave montana for about 15y now.  It has produced a huge flower bud like a 2 metre asparagus spear.  Is this supposed to happen in UK and will it prove to be monocarpic?
Thank you
Cameron

    Wow,that is quite impressive!
Let us also see it when it is fully out.
A quick Google says it is monocarpic so will die off, looks like you still have another to keep you going for a while.

  • That is fabulous!
Has it got any offsets around it?  If not maybe flowering and dying will trigger the appearance of some. 🤞

  • Oh how fantastic...my agave will be a while yet to reach its flowering stage.

    Massive asparagus stalk 🙂
I've never seen that before, very impressive.
  • Yes they only flower once...but it's quite a show! Hope we'll get to see a photo of the resulting flowers.
