Can I reuse compost?

Thea2Thea2 Posts: 14
Hello all, As my tomato plants are coming to an end I wondered if the compost would be ok to use to plant spring bulbs in to for next year? Or do I need to buy some new bags?

Also, I hate all the flowers dying off, are there any hardy winter plants I can use to cheer up my doorstep please?

Yes - you can re use the compost, although a bit of fresh stuff is beneficial.  :)
Winter pansies are readily available and popular for winter flowers. If you add a couple of small evergreens and some spring bulbs [depending on how many pots, or if it's one big one etc] that will give you some lasting colour. Heucheras are also very useful for winter colour in pots, and even if it's a sunny-ish site, they won't get fried during winter.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • It's best to sprinkle it as a mulch round tender plants. It will not be much good for nutrition but will provide protection against bad weather.
