Columnular Apple and pear trees

I have some columnular Apple and pear trees that I bought on the net and grow in a pot. However the trees just look like mini normal trees, what can I do or is it to late to do anything with them?

    *Bump*  :)
  • What trees are they, and where did you buy them from? I'm not an expert but that doesn't look like a columnar to me, it looks like someone started to do an espalier (90 degree branches half way up) switched to a fan, then gave up!

The brass light thing in the pot is obscuring the bottom of the tree. Please can you post a photo so we can see what's going on at what I'm guessing is the graft point (where the dark wood meets the light left hand main stem).

If it is a true columnar, you'll be able to train it back with some careful thought and pruning, but to me that's a weird shape if it came like that...

Of course someone may tell you I'm completely wrong, so let's see what everyone else thinks!
  • I shall take a picture tomorrow of the base. Thank you so much for your help. I don't know where it was bought from as they were a present from a friend. If I can be of any further help just ask me as I really would love to train these as were meant to be.
