Excellent, well done @BrixtonGardener , Ive just set that up.

Im surprised theres not another service offering a frost alert. Seems like a useful tool for gardeners.

The trouble is- a frost in itself isn't often a problem. It's how severe, and how prolonged they are that matters. A single frost of minus 3 or 4 for a few hours, for example, will do less damage than a week of ones at around 0 or minus 1. The problem compounds as time goes on. If temps are staying low through the day, as well, that compounds it further.
It's also more damaging when ground has been wet previously, rather than dry. Whether an air or a ground frost too.
Lots of factors to consider in a garden  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Yes, there's frost and frost. As FG says, air frost, ground frost, hard & fast frost or 3oC frost. It depends on your conditions and your winds. If you have a frost pocket garden where air is trapped it's a very different thing to a sheltered micro climate garden. A general weather forecast won't tell you much about how it will hit your particular patch, but watching your patch over time will show you how it general repsonds to cold weather passing through.
  • I think it all helps. There’s definitely no substitute for understanding the micro-climates in your own environment, but I quite like the tech side to give me a general understanding and baseline from which I can make my own decisions.

As always, the tools are only as good as those using them
  • Hmmm. Not sure if I can get IFTT to work as it doesnt detect any weather services.

I cant se where to setup email alerts with Metcheck or Met Office(?)
I set it up last night, you have to connect weather underground...

How do you tell it what temperature though?

I added an applet thing similar to the above but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell it when to check (and notify me) or tell it what temperature I'm looking for.

It's the one feature nearly all apps are missing.

if you connect the app, then click the gear on the top right, you can set the temperature and location:

  • I never knew that 3degress was frost, I have been checking temperature, but was thinking it was zero degrees,  thanks guys.

That's why it comes up on your car dashboard at 3  ;)

    Hmm.
I created one similar to yours but it has never run :( Even when I click the "Run now" it doesn't seem to do anything.
Will keep trying though.  Shame there's no support forum for IFTTT.

"Alexa - weather tomorrow" (or whatever time).

Gives max / min, and a very brief weather summary.

    Other questions are possible.
