Nobbly Spring Bulb ID please

A new garden and i've dug up these bulbs. I'm assuming they are spring bulbs and i have no idea what they are.  Does anybody recognize them?

    Not sure @Cottage Compost , but they look part of a rhizome rather than a bulb if you know what I mean. Plant up and see  :)
    Were they quite near the surface of the soil?
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Thank you Butterfly66, having googled images of these bulbs / rhizomes they don't look the same enough to be sure.   But thank you though for the suggestion.

    As suggested i may have to pop them back in the ground along with several other bulbs that i'm sure are tulips and daffodils and see what pops up in the spring and then ID them and decide whether to keep them or not etc and then put them where i want them in the green.

    Jerusalem artichokes?  I believe they are related to sunflowers and have similar flowers.

    Hope they are not Jerusalem artichokes but having googled images i see what you mean.  But i'm sure they can't be because if they were they would be in full swing, in full flower and not too far off harvesting.

    They are a lot of them all over the garden too.   I'm convinced they are a spring something or another.  I'm digging up a lot of daffodil and tulip bulbs too.
