Rhododendron 'Hoppy' Flowering in September

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any experts in here that could tell me why my Hoppy is happy??? It's September!

She did have a poor April and May and only half flowered.

For the same reason as why my Rh. Cunningham's White plants are flowering. The odd weather. Climate change.

Some ponticums in our area are flowering too, they are confused with the weather.
  •  I was always under the impression plants worked on length of day to determine when to bed in for the long nap
  • Yes but when they don’t flower at the springtime we get a period from mid September when the light levels are the same as they should have been in spring. A lot of plants react to this “confusion” by having a second flowering. I recently read in a magazine here in France that they are monitoring this as part of climate change. It seems to be happening more frequently.

Both mine are flowering at the moment. My apple tree has also had some blossom this month. I can only put it down to the weather. I hope they will still flower next spring.

Sadly - ponticums never know when to stop flowering. Horrrible things  :/

Not that unusual for rhodos to have some later flowers though.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Very good point @Jacquimcmahon That makes sense now I think about it.

    Thanks all!
