If you have bramble creeping over from next door, just dig them up and pull as much out as possible. I have noticed you have mulch down already, so I suspect, that should keep a lot of the smaller weeds down. You should be able to dig them up if the soil is reasonably damp.
Thank you, I’m not sure why the stakes were there to be honest. We do get a lot of badgers and foxes - perhaps it was to ward them off? I’ve had two ripped out in the night - once.
Today I have removed as many weeds and whatever else I’ve found under the hedges and given them a good soaking.
ill be looking up mulch as I’ve naively never heard of it - total amateur.
I also gave them a little trim, especially the stragglers. Maybe I could have gone harder, but I got cold feet so only cut off the leggy bits.
Apologies - mulch is just a layer of material - compost, rotted manure etc, put around plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. It breaks down over time and feeds the soil too It also looks good around plants.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
