oxalis everywhere

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I have yellow oxalis popping up everywhere. I must've spread it with my compost.
I suppose I already know the answer, but does anyone have an idea how to control it?
I don't use weedkillers.

In that case you need to get digging deep and try to get as much out as you can. I have it in the beds in the front garden and it's a complete bu**er to try and get rid of.  Where possible l use weedkiller but where it's in amongst the plants l just have to try and get it out by hand. It's now in the lawn, my OH is not happy.

Another weed I'll have to live with😕 . Well at least it's prettier than geum urbanum .
Predictive text changes geum to grim. How apt!

If you can get it out before it starts to flower (which is usually the time l spot it 🙄), that will reduce it a bit.
Very pretty but my goodness it's invasive.

I use the Flame gun on it where I can. In the beds near plants eternal vigilance and deep digging to remove all the roots and tiny bulbils are needed to reduce it. Sorry, but it is pernicious with a vengeance.

I have it and quite like it!

That's one of its sneaky infiltration strategies @madpenguin

It's been super bad in my garden as well this year, far more than any other year. Where it's coming up inbetween the paving slabs (brickwork), I use boiling water on it which helps. There's no way that any sharp implement will get between the bricks to kill the bulblets.

If it's in the borders, then hand digging quite deeply to get as many of the bulblets as possible.

Or hoe it so you don't have to look at it, giving yourself a few more weeks until you need to think about it again... :)

Hoe and forget. Same tried and trusted method I use for Spanish bluebells and celandine @Anna33 😉
