Bugs eating plant leaves

I have hostas and other perennials that bugs are eating the leaves.  What can I put on the plants?

    Salad dressing?
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Need photos.  :)
    Slugs are the biggest chomper of Hostas though

    @wild edges  :D

    My Hostas get eaten by tiny little snails.   Seems to be a year for them, they’re on everything!
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Certainly for the Hostas I would recommend getting copper bands that can be interlinked around a plant to any size, available on the internet. You then just have to stop any leaves touching the ground and creating a bridge. Slugs won't climb the copper and it fades to blend in. If there are slimy silvery trails over the leaves of any plants it's likely to be slugs and snails.

    Except that slugs don't just go 'over ground'. They live underneath as well, and just come up inside those rings  :D
    The small ones are the worst, as @Lyn says.
