@koyukano, just wondering how you store your chillies ? I got a good harvest yesterday from one plant , but there are only the two of us, so l won't be using them up that quickly.

Hi annid, I was wondering the same at first, after a bit of research freezing them seems the way to go. Just cut off the stems, chop them up and de seed if u want too (u don't have to chop them up or de seed them) and then put into air tight containers or freezer bags.

I put them in 5 tubs for the freezer. They should last apparently about 6 months in the freezer.

Another option you could try would be turning some of them into a chili jam which I liked the sound of but was too busy to do this.

    Enjoy them anyway Annid  :)

Freeze whole in bags or chop and freeze in ice cube trays then transfer to bags.

Dry - I did this one year by passing a needle with black sewing cotton thru the neck and stretching them across empty picture frames in my kitchen window - very pretty and colourful.  Store in jars when dry.

Heat gently in olive oil then cool, strain and store the flavoured oil in a cool dark place.

Chili jam - lots of variants with tomatoes, sweet peppers, onions, garlic, ginger, star anise to ring the changes.   Fabulous with simple cooked chicken, sausages, pork chops, steak, goat or Cheddar style cheese......
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

    Many thanks @koyukano and @Obelixx  :)
  • I have also threaded some of mine onto thread and hung them up in the kitchen to dry. They last for years that way. I froze some whole, just lay them on a baking tray in the freezer overnight then put them into a zip top plastic bag. I put some under vinegar in a jar, they have kept well stored in thr fridge.
You can always use them to make chilli sauce or jam when there is less to do outside due to inclement weather.
