My lilac tree leaves are going black and brittle  can anyone tell me the cause

    My lilac seems to go dormant pretty early in the year. Looks pretty terrible right now with yellow leaves and some bare branches. I thought it might be normal because it did the same last year but came back fine in spring and flowered well.
