Yellowing leaves on potted rose bush.

Hi gardeners, it's mid-sept here in the south of france and my rosier is pushing out some flowers still. Some yellow patches have started appearing on some leaves though. Any ideas as to what could be causing them? It's on a west-facing balcony so gets the hot late afternoon and evening sun, although it does a lot better since I moved it to the wall. Thanks !!

  • To me it looks like leaf senescence.. as I cannot see any evidence of blackspots or powdery mildrew, and it seems to happen only to the leaves lower down (older leaves). At this time of the year when the weather gets colder this can happen.. even if the rose is still flowering.

Let’s see what the others think about this one as they’re far more experienced than me. If it’s leaf senescence then you won’t have to do anything, it’s part of the life cycle and is benign.
  • Thanks for your response celcius_kkw, my assumption was that I'd done something wrong as I'm not particularly green fingereand. We did have a coolish spell in early sept, then the daytime temps shot back up to 32-34 and 16-20 at night.
