Some bulbs will grow and then slow down again when weather cools. However, have you made sure you've planted them at the correct depth?

  • Thanks, Yes - was first time so measured out - oh well, might put them somewhere cooler in hope they slow.

Are they in a pot? When it cools down, the growth will slow down too.
Nothing to worry about. Happens with all sorts of bulbs, depending on where you live  :)

My grape hyacinths are up already. It's normal. They'll pause when the weather cools down and then flower in spring.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Mine too @JennyJ, even a few crocus have appeared.

  • Hi everyone, i'm new on this forum and a novice in gardening. All the bulbs I planted in pots are common coming out. I read somewhere to store them in a dark place. I now put them in a garage. Is that ok or too late?
  • What bulbs did you plant? Are they indoors or outdoors?

It's quite normal in warm spells. They'll slow when it cools down.

  • Daffodils, muscari, dwars iris. All outdoors on the terrace but now in a dank shed
