Shade? Or not shade?

  • I tell you what I find frustrating and difficult is different sources giving conflicting info on what conditions plants like. One source says the plant is particular and needs sun, another (often the vendors) cheerfully tell you it'll thrive in pretty much any conditions. It's just difficult to know whose advice to take.

Because of this, you will need to look at the plant's adaptability. Some plants are high maintenance and need quite exact conditions, whilst others are more easier to grow because they still can perform with more shade or more sun, so that is why some information can be conflicting.

I tend to research the plant's origins. Look at the types of conditions, like rock, soil type, open exposure to sun, or protected exposure to sun. Morning sun or afternoon sun too.
